Modern take on toile for a French chic bedroom

I was poking around looking at toile bedding the other day. Lots of options, of course, and not just the black and white you might be used to. These days, toile comes in pink, red, blue, green – I even saw some yellow. And a lot of the time, it’s paired with 300 patterns, and after a while, I start to feel a little overwhelmed with it all.
Which is why I loved these toile bedding sets. The toile itself has more of the background showing than usual and the patterns mixed with it are white with a little black rather than the other way around. The overall effect is light and airy and soft rather than overwhelming and formal. (Which is fine for a grown-up bedroom, but I’m not overly keen on it for a girl’s.) The tiny pink touches add just the right amount of sweet and cute, perfect for a girl. The first one keeps the toile front and center on the comforter, while the second one makes it more of the accent fabric.
How to decorate the bedroom around this bedding? The walls would be fairly easy. Depending on the color you want to emphasize, you could paint an accent wall with the pink or black. I’d stick with black and white accessories with the occasional pink item (like this white and pink chair) thrown in to mimic the color balance of the bedspread. All of this would increase the chic factor of the style. Or you could go entirely white like in the pictures above to truly emphasize the airy, calm feeling.
Toile immediately makes me think French, which makes sense since that’s where the word and concept come from. I absolutely adore the idea of pairing one of these bedding sets with a giant Eiffel Tower mural or wall decal. And this Parisian tree graphic would go a different direction and fit nicely with the toile pattern.
