Teen Bedroom Ideas: Hidden speakers
Apr
Got a small room? Don’t want to take up precious desk space with an iPod speaker dock?
I’ve found a couple of interesting ideas for hiding speakers in the room. That don’t require you to do any wiring. Yeah!
The first one is headboards from Homelegance like the dark brown speaker headboard in the picture. They also make them in sports themes like football, basketball and soccer. The speakers are double-mounted with adjustable volume and compatibility with just about any MP3 player. Oh – and check out that little pocket in the side to hold the player!
Next up is the Ellery Sound Asleep Comfort Pillow with Built-in Speaker. Mouthful, huh? It’s an interesting idea, actually. A speaker inside a pillow so you can listen to whatever you want as you fall asleep. I thought surely that would be uncomfortable, but a lot of people in the reviews said it was actually really good. Sound quality is great and it’s generally a good pillow. Nice.
The pillow comes with detachable 46″ stereo cable plus, so you can use it with just about anything, including a TV. Wow. (Great option for the person who wants to listen when the other person doesn’t.)

Crazy bookcases that look like trees
Mar
These are just so cool! But can you even tell it’s a bookcase? I wish they had a picture available that showed it with books on it!
Still, this tree bookcase is quite a nice piece (and coordinates with other Nurseryworks furniture), certainly a unique focal point for a bedroom. I like it with just about any theme that includes an outdoor element. You could paint the wall with a cloud of leaves around the top to add to the illusion.
The case comes in green and white and includes an anti-tipping kit for safety. The six shelves can hold more than 100 books and the whole shebang stands at just over five feet tall.

Kids Bedroom Ideas: Themed Toy Boxes
Feb
After I found that music toy box the other day, I poked around a bit more and discovered all kinds of themed toy boxes. But the two I have today I really liked because they weren’t just square boxes with a design on the outside.
The lion cage toy chest is a great idea for a train or circus theme since it’s the train car you’d carry the lions or other animals in. Great place to story all your child’s stuffed animals!
Then the dumptruck toy chest, perfect for any little boy, of course. But definitely a great touch in a room with a construct or building theme. Or possibly transportation or just any kind of trucks. And – bonus – it comes in dark blue, red or yellow so you can pick the color that works best with your room.

Kids Bedroom Ideas: Musical bedroom decor
Feb
Kids love music – not always the same kind as you, but still, music. And you can tell early on just whether they’ll be any good at it.
And music makes a great decor option because it can work into other themes and just be a fun theme on its own. I love the idea of a room with letters, numbers and music notes for a preschooler since those are all the things they’re learning about. (As well as colors. Lots of colors!)
So I was thrilled when I ran across this music note toy box because it brings the music and color for sure. The piano keyboard on top is pretty specific but mostly, it’s just about music in general. It’s padded on top to use as a seat – can handle up to 65 pounds – and has those necessary safety vents for when your child decides to climb inside.
Now, this box works nicely in any colorful room, but I started wondering if there were more music options that worked with the colors on the toy box. Poking around, I found this musical kids rug featuring music notes and symbols as well as various instruments and this stretched canvas art from Oopsy Daisy with drums and notes and a trumpet. The colors go perfectly with the toy box!

Kids Bedroom Ideas: Open the artist’s toolbox
Feb
This is just the coolest thing I have seen in a while! I always struggle a bit with just how to do an artist bedroom theme. It can go in so many different directions that pinning down just what you want can be tough.
But this bed? The perfect signature piece to kick off the theme. It’s called the Tools of the Trade bed. While the tools aren’t strictly all artist tools (it’s really meant more as a back to school feel), it definitely works with that theme. Only thing I wish was different was the pink crayon since most boys won’t be going for that!
The custom made bed’s is produced here in the US from hardwood, plywood, MDF, PVC and metal. It’s a piece that can stand up to your child’s abuse while being just a totally fun piece of furniture.

Colorful ottomans and stools perfect for a kid’s bedroom
Sep
Kids are usually bouncing off the walls, but there comes a time in the day when they just want to sit down, put their feet up and take a break. (Talk about mimicking mom and dad!)
Now, if you want them to keep their feet off your furniture, you have to give them their own. And there are a lot of ottoman and stool options out there sized for kids. But seriously, what kid wants a boring blob in their room?
I found a couple of options sure to please just about any kids, although they might not be a perfect theme match for you. (Not to worry. These are just a few of the ones I found. There are tons of other choices.)
One of my favorites is the cute green puzzle piece ottoman, perfect for just about any theme and any age child. It’s available in five colors if green doesn’t work for you and comes via free shipping at Amazon.
And what girl wouldn’t love this bit of pink fluff? It’s a pink flower fabric ottoman from the folks at Gund, so you know it’s quality. Best of all, it works with just about any pink theme you can think of.
But my all time favorite that I stumbled upon months ago is this adorable little guy! This blue elephant stool is sure to draw oohs and ahhs from anyone who sees it. The elephant works with a circus, jungle or safari theme – oh, probably zoo and elephant as well – while the polka dot fabric makes it a match with a room going for a polka dot theme. The blue doesn’t make it just for boys, but that color will pair well with themes for them, for sure.

Skateboard headboard adds a unique touch
Dec
These are the kinds of pieces that make a child’s bedroom unique. Absolutely love this custom-made skateboarding theme bed I found over at Artistic Sensations. Makes for a great signature piece in the room.
The bed includes headboard, footboard and hardware to attach them. You’ll need to supply your own frame and mattress. The pieces are hand-painted in the colors you specify, and you can even have the skateboarder customized to resemble your child. (That’s the custom part!) It’s made of solid wood, so it should be a piece your child can use for years.
The company that makes these also offers matching pieces like a dress, nightstand and bookshelf if you want all the furniture to match.
