Tie up this girls bedroom idea with a bow
Mar
All the bows on this bedding set just scream “girl” to me. Without doing it too loudly, of course. (Not very ladylike.)
Actually, this bows comforter set from Target is a great way to start off a girls bedroom theme. The black background keeps it from feeling too little girl, while the pink bows ensure there is no question it’s a girls room. And you get a couple of shades of pink to work with here.
Given the style of the design, I’m leaning toward elegant and French rather than something too little girl as far as the rest of the room. And you can’t think elegant without thinking Audrey Hepburn, right? Love this image of her as Holly Golightly – just the right note and colors. I also really liked this set of fashion prints; again elegant and the right colors and feel. Oh, and don’t forget a chandelier!

Finally – unicorn bedding perfect for little girls
Mar
We tend to think all little girls just love unicorns, right? So I’ve never understood why it was impossible to find anything with unicorns that worked for girls.
Yes, you could find a few things that were more on the adult fantasy lover side of things. Not really the kind of thing an 8-year-old would go for.
But finally, thanks to the folks at DwellStudio, there’s a unicorn duvet set any girl would love. And since it’s DwellStudio, the design is sharp and modern with great color choices. You can also get just the pillow shams if you’d like to add just a touch of the design to a lilac and orange color scheme.
Since there is a lack of pink in the set, I’d stick with orange and lilac solids in adding pieces around the room. I love the idea of a lilac accent wall behind the bed and orange furniture pieces around the room.

Teen Bedroom Trends: Giant Flower Bedding
Nov
Not entirely certain when this happened, but flowers are getting bigger. No – it’s not due to global warming. Just a design trend I’m seeing in floral bedding.
It’s mostly target to teens, I think, as I look at these styles. Tons of very, very, very large flowers having been making their way into bedding styles. I love most of them because they’re so dramatic and eye-catching and girly without being too little girl (like the Sloane set from Target pictured here). Which makes them perfect for a teen. Not to mention, a few big flowers is far less fussy a look than something with tons of small flowers.
One of the places these are popping up the most is over at Target. Their latest designs are quite slanted in this direction. But there are a ton of options blooming all over. I’ve featured a couple of my favorites here, but you can check out a bigger selection of giant flower bedding I collected over at Squidoo.

Girl Bedroom Ideas: Pink cowgirl all the way
Nov
Saddle up, cowgirl! And bring all your pink with you if you want.
It’s a fascinating contrast when you start looking at all the pink cowgirl bedding and decor items you can get. For an adult, it just seems a tiny bit odd, but for a young girl, it makes perfect sense. So if your girly girl wants a cowgirl bedroom, it’s easy enough to do. Just imagine her cowboy hat has a bow on it instead of dust.
I’ve included two of my favorite cowgirl bedding sets here. The paisley pink western bedding isn’t overtly cowgirl until you add in the throw pillows. It’s somewhat elegant, definitely a look she can grow with since it’s not too little girl. I could see a teen using this set. The other cowgirl bedding set pictured here is just sweet and would work well for a younger girl.
Or you could build the room around a great piece of cowgirl decor. I personally loved this cowgirls stretched canvas wall art from Oopsy Daisy. Plenty of pink, plenty of cowgirl, plenty of girl – perfect!

Girl Bedroom Ideas: Strawberry Shortcake Theme
Feb
Yea – we want you to love our character. Boo – we don’t make much other than toys. Which leaves a parent in a bind for how to give their child the bedroom of their dreams. Happens all the time. Today, we’re tackling Strawberry Shortcake for a girl’s bedroom theme.
Two words to remember with Strawberry Shortcake – pink and sweet. Her color scheme has changed over the years to definitely be all about the pink now. Toss in some spring green and there’s your color scheme. The big challenge with this bedroom theme – other than the decided lack of Strawberry Shortcake items – is to not overwhelm with the pink. I started with pink bedding (isn’t it awesome?) but tossed in some green as well.
I like the white blanket to break up the pink bed and would definitely pair all this with white furniture. But add the green knobs! And the green bean bag? It’s a stuffed animal storage bag, actually, perfect for the kind of girl who would love this theme. If you’re handy with the sewing machine, there are some lovely fleece, flannel and cotton fabrics available as well to use to add some more Strawberry Shortcake touches.
Where to get it:
- Bloom In Pink Kids Rug at Amazon
- Stackable Pastel Beadboard Toy Boxes – Spring Green Storage Box at Land of Nod, $79

Girl Bedroom Ideas: Bright colors and flowers
Jan
I love bright colors, but it can be difficult to figure out just how to work them together sometimes. Should you always pair them with a neutral? How many are too many? Fortunately, there are professional people out there who do all that worrying for you. (Yea!) They’re the smart designers who create bedding and art and rugs. Let them worry about those things and you just follow their lead.
Which is what I did with this particular bedroom look, which is full of brights with some not-overly-girly-flowers thrown in. What I love about this girls bedding set is it is can carry your girl through from 8 to 18. (Unless she’s like me and likes to redecorate all the time!) It’s just the right amount of girly without being too little girl.
I’ve paired it with equally bright accessories in all the different colors of the palette. With this many brights, I’d highly suggest lots of white to balance them out and make them shine. Think of maybe painting one wall as an accent in one of the palette colors (ack – too many to choose from) and leave the rest white. White furniture would also be great or maybe a light metal. Definitely avoid dark, heavy pieces. The feeling of this room is light and airy.
