Tie up this girls bedroom idea with a bow
Mar
All the bows on this bedding set just scream “girl” to me. Without doing it too loudly, of course. (Not very ladylike.)
Actually, this bows comforter set from Target is a great way to start off a girls bedroom theme. The black background keeps it from feeling too little girl, while the pink bows ensure there is no question it’s a girls room. And you get a couple of shades of pink to work with here.
Given the style of the design, I’m leaning toward elegant and French rather than something too little girl as far as the rest of the room. And you can’t think elegant without thinking Audrey Hepburn, right? Love this image of her as Holly Golightly – just the right note and colors. I also really liked this set of fashion prints; again elegant and the right colors and feel. Oh, and don’t forget a chandelier!

Finally – unicorn bedding perfect for little girls
Mar
We tend to think all little girls just love unicorns, right? So I’ve never understood why it was impossible to find anything with unicorns that worked for girls.
Yes, you could find a few things that were more on the adult fantasy lover side of things. Not really the kind of thing an 8-year-old would go for.
But finally, thanks to the folks at DwellStudio, there’s a unicorn duvet set any girl would love. And since it’s DwellStudio, the design is sharp and modern with great color choices. You can also get just the pillow shams if you’d like to add just a touch of the design to a lilac and orange color scheme.
Since there is a lack of pink in the set, I’d stick with orange and lilac solids in adding pieces around the room. I love the idea of a lilac accent wall behind the bed and orange furniture pieces around the room.

Denim options for cowgirl bedroom
Jan
If you aren’t looking to make your cowgirl bedroom all pink and girly, there is at least one good way to start.
Denim provides a great base to build a cowgirl room around. It evokes a cowgirl’s jeans, offers a neutral color to build on and can work with other themes if she ever grows out of the cowgirl phase. Not to mention, it can easily be handed down to a little brother with no fuss.
One of the best denim comforter sets I found was over at Target, although it looks a little bright for my taste with this particular theme. Maybe washing a few times would soften the color at bit. It’s a denim bonanza, for sure. You could go with cow print sheets; you get a good idea of what that might look like thanks to the zebra ones in the picture.
If you want to limit the denim to the comforter, this Tommy Hilfiger denim comforter might fit the bill. It’s a bit darker, which I personally liked, and could be paired with prints on the bedskit and pillows instead of just denim everywhere.
For a big more stylish look, check out this denim enzyme wash quilt from Bacati. The colors are faded thanks to the wash and you can get it in red or blue. The embroidery breaks up the expanse of the bed (excellent for a larger bed size) and is a bit reminiscent of bandana print. This one definitely could be transitioned over to a teen bedroom without any trouble.

Teen Bedroom Trends: Giant Flower Bedding
Nov
Not entirely certain when this happened, but flowers are getting bigger. No – it’s not due to global warming. Just a design trend I’m seeing in floral bedding.
It’s mostly target to teens, I think, as I look at these styles. Tons of very, very, very large flowers having been making their way into bedding styles. I love most of them because they’re so dramatic and eye-catching and girly without being too little girl (like the Sloane set from Target pictured here). Which makes them perfect for a teen. Not to mention, a few big flowers is far less fussy a look than something with tons of small flowers.
One of the places these are popping up the most is over at Target. Their latest designs are quite slanted in this direction. But there are a ton of options blooming all over. I’ve featured a couple of my favorites here, but you can check out a bigger selection of giant flower bedding I collected over at Squidoo.

Girl Bedroom Ideas: Pink cowgirl all the way
Nov
Saddle up, cowgirl! And bring all your pink with you if you want.
It’s a fascinating contrast when you start looking at all the pink cowgirl bedding and decor items you can get. For an adult, it just seems a tiny bit odd, but for a young girl, it makes perfect sense. So if your girly girl wants a cowgirl bedroom, it’s easy enough to do. Just imagine her cowboy hat has a bow on it instead of dust.
I’ve included two of my favorite cowgirl bedding sets here. The paisley pink western bedding isn’t overtly cowgirl until you add in the throw pillows. It’s somewhat elegant, definitely a look she can grow with since it’s not too little girl. I could see a teen using this set. The other cowgirl bedding set pictured here is just sweet and would work well for a younger girl.
Or you could build the room around a great piece of cowgirl decor. I personally loved this cowgirls stretched canvas wall art from Oopsy Daisy. Plenty of pink, plenty of cowgirl, plenty of girl – perfect!

Girl Bedroom Ideas: White Romantic Bedroom
Mar
We talked about white bedrooms recently, a post inspired by putting this room together. The concept here is not just white, but white romantic, which means lots of layers, lots of fluff, lots of very, very girly.
I decided to try to stick with straight white here, which is a bit of a challenge. You thinking matching reds is tough, try white. I also choose to add a really pale pink as an accent color just for some interest. You could go completely white or pick a different pastel. (I say pastel, because anything bold is going to make it less romantic.) You’ll also notice I piled up the pillows on this one. Layers, layers, layers help to make a white room interesting, remember.

Girls Bedroom Ideas: Perfect Panda
Feb
Pandas are so cute. Have you ever seen one in real life? We got to visit the San Diego Zoo one time when there was a panda baby – just too adorable. So it makes perfect sense that they’d make a perfectly cute bedroom design for your little girl.
I started this look with the bedding set, which is part of the Animal Planet line. (Have you seen them? Some really great designs.) To that I added the neat green Asian mural – kind of a monochromatic scene. Tried to decide between that one and a cool black one with white scribbles, but decided the green one was the best. Add in some great art with bamboo leaves, trunks and pandas. I then went completely overboard with the pile of pandas, but you probably can’t overdo it in the stuffed animal department with most little girls.
Where to get it:
- Animal Planet Panda Exploration bedding set, Wayfair, $69 for twin, free shipping
- Rough Plaid rug, Layla Grayce, $181
- Bonsai Tree with Mountain View mural, Murals Your Way, customizable, price based on size

- Stuffed pandas, tons of options at Amazon
- OopsyDaisy canvas art, Amazon, free shipping
- Frames, tons of options at Amazon
- Keepsake box, Amazon
- Bamboo plant, Target, $279.99
- Panda rocker, Hayneedle, $64.99

Girl Bedroom Ideas: Rocker Girl
Feb
Whether you’re in to Hannah Montana or Joan Jett, we all have a little bit of rocker girl inside us. So this room … it’s for all of us.
The signature piece here is definitely the bedding set. It gives us our color scheme as well as the flavor of the room, which is a bit on the loud side. I love the hand-lettering graffiti look, which is why I didn’t include any of the rock star decals I found. None of them had the same style of writing. Boo. But, there are some cool pillows that work, as well as that rug. Love that rug. Love it. If you’re brave, you could paint the walls the turquoise shade but not black or the bedding will get lost in it. One black wall might be cool for hanging the neon; just don’t put the bed against it.
Where to get it:
- Lex Modern Art Guitar Canvas at Modern Nursery, $69.00 – $199.00 based on size
- Turquoise Star Felt Word Wall Decor at Amazon
- Brentwood Kids Poodle Body Pillow, Turquoise at Amazon (also available in pink and purple)

- Rockstar Bed in a Bag at Target, $59.99
- Neon Heart Wall Mirror at Artistic Sensations, $78
- Teen Heart Shaped Pillow at Artistic Sensations, $150

Girl Bedroom Ideas: Love and Nature Pink Owls
Feb
Owls are pretty hot decor items at the moment. And your girl might be leaning that way. So how about an owl room that’s plenty girly?

The core of this room is definitely the bedding set, part of the Love and Nature line at Target. I only included one other piece from that line, but you could just snap up all of it as that might make life easier. The green desk is fab and they have more furniture pieces in that color if you’re bold enough to go for it. They’re painted, so sort-of easy enough to change the color later if you’ve got the time.
My favorite pieces in this lineup are the fabric letters. Spell your child’s name or write the words “love” and “nature”. (Oh, and they come in blues as well. Yea!)
Where to get it:
- My Style Computer Desk – Green at The Frog and The Princess, $500
- Oopsy Daisy Going Green Lamp Green Base at Amazon, $138
- DwellStudio Kids Tufted Wool Rug Dots Petal at Layla Grace, 5′x8′ for $550, free shipping
- Antique Wire Green Memory Board at The Frog and The Princess, $31
- Pink and Green m Fabric Wall Letter and Pink and Green k Fabric Wall Letter at The Frog and The Princess, $14 each (search for “fabric wall letter” to find the rest of the alphabet)
- Wooden Glitter Tree Wall Hanging at The Frog and The Princess, $29
- Circo Love & Nature Bed Set – Twin at Target.com, $59.99, free shipping
- Circo Love & Nature Hedgehog Bean Bag at Target.com, $29.99 (no longer available)

Tips for a white girls bedroom idea
Feb
So, I’ve been working on a few ideas for a white girl’s bedroom. (Hate the way that sounds, it’s a white bedroom for a girl, not a bedroom for a white girl. You know that, right?) Several ideas, actually.
There’s no one right way to do a white room, but there are definitely some general guidelines I’ve figured out as I’ve gone through this process. No matter which style of white room you’re planning on, here are a few tips to help you reach success.
- Neatness counts. But it’s not the messy of chocolate on the comforter you need to worry about. Think storage and lots of it. With a white room, any kind of clutter is going to throw the look off. (Got a messy child? Rethink your choice of theme.)
- White or white? Not all whites are created equal. Decide early if you want a mix of white shades or a straight, pure white.
- Accent. It might be a white bedroom, but you can still toss in an accent color. It serves to set off the white and keep the room from feeling sterile. It can be a soft color like baby pink or a bold shade like lime. Just remember it’s the second banana.
- Details count. Again, we want to avoid a sterile feel so details help break things up and keep the room from being too one-note. White is the one color that you can completely overdo. Layer up everything; you can’t add too much detail and texture.
- Match with metallics. If you don’t want to bring in an accent color, try adding in some metals. Silver is great with sleek and modern looks, copper or gold with warm and soft.
- Create a focal point. When everything’s the same color, it’s hard to know where to look. Whether through texture or scale or color, give them a place to look first. A wow bed is a good choice and it doesn’t have to be white. It can be metal or dark as contrast or just over-sized.
