Teen Bedroom Ideas: Hidden speakers

17
Apr

Got a small room? Don’t want to take up precious desk space with an iPod speaker dock?

I’ve found a couple of interesting ideas for hiding speakers in the room. That don’t require you to do any wiring. Yeah!

The first one is headboards from Homelegance like the dark brown speaker  headboard in the picture. They also make them in sports themes like football, basketball and soccer. The speakers are double-mounted with adjustable volume and compatibility with just about any MP3 player. Oh – and check out that little pocket in the side to hold the player!

Next up is the Ellery Sound Asleep Comfort Pillow with Built-in Speaker. Mouthful, huh? It’s an interesting idea, actually. A speaker inside a pillow so you can listen to whatever you want as you fall asleep. I thought surely that would be uncomfortable, but a lot of people in the reviews said it was actually really good. Sound quality is great and it’s generally a good pillow. Nice.

The pillow comes with detachable 46″ stereo cable plus, so you can use it with just about anything, including a TV. Wow. (Great option for the person who wants to listen when the other person doesn’t.)

Teen Bedroom Ideas: Kicking it with Roxy bedding

31
Jan

As girls get older, there comes a point when they’re ready to ditch the stuffed animals and think a little more grown up with their bedroom decor.

But grown-up doesn’t have to mean stuffy. Nor does it have to mean super themed like a little kids room might be. No, a teen bedroom can be mature but fun. A good place to start for a lot of teen girls would be with Roxy bedding designs.

Roxy is a surfing brand and has translated that fun into its bedding. One of the ones I love best is the Summer Stripe bed in a bag set pictured here. It has everything you need for the bed and comes in all the sizes a teen would want. It brings in lots of colors (including just a dab of pink) and stripes are a nice background for just about any other decor she’d want to bring in.

Along with comforter and duvet sets, Roxy recently added a few quilt sets to its collection, including the Element Quilt pictured here. Again, a nice neutral backdrop to whatever other decorating she wants to do and just enough girly to make it hers. The quilt sets are a bit cheaper than the others, which is another great reason to consider them.

Teen Bedroom Ideas: Road trip

24
Jan

What teen doesn’t dream of the day they get behind the wheel? And somewhere in the heart of every adventurer is the longing for a road trip.

Evoke some of that dream with a road trip bedroom theme, perfect for any teen with the yen to wander. I started with the Road Trip bed in a bag set pictured here, a nice dark backdrop that would definitely please a teen boy. The dark navy, slate blue and white palette is a great one to work with as well since it is elegant and grown-up. But enjoy the splashes of yellow in there that add a bit of fun.

I tracked down this mural over at Murals Your Way called The 8 Ball that uses some of the same colors as well as repeats the palm trees from the comforter. Looks like the kind of place you’d want to stop on a road trip, right?

The rest of the decor in a room like this is pretty easy to imagine. Road signs in black, white and yellow (warning – curves ahead!), maps plotted out with a trip, posters of where you want to go or places you’ve been.

Teen Bedroom Ideas: Three ways to head to London

05
Jan

Dreams of travel are big for teens. There’s something so grown-up and sophisticated about globe-trotting and we all know they’re eager to bee seen as grown-up and sophisticated.

I’ve been seeing another big trend lately with cityscapes and travel oriented bedding and decor. So let’s hop over to London today to look at three different styles you could employ.

How about a highly graphic room in black and white with just the tiniest splash of red? This London comforter set can get you started. And the two symbols on there – the double-decker bus and the phone box – are red emblems of the town you could employ around the room to add that splash of color.

You could go kind of vintage or retro with warm colors with this London wallpaper mural newly released from RoomMates. It definitely gives off that travel vibe and 50s style. Pair it with some vintage London travel posters on the other walls and some retro steamer trunk furniture.

Or maybe crisp and colorful is more your style. I’ve always loved the designs from the Designers Guild and the double decker duvet set pictured here is no exception. London Bridge, double-decker buses and other icons are rendered in graphical style and tons of colors. Those colors aren’t the red, white and blue of the British Jack, though, which can present a tiny challenge. I did find a muted jack rug that could work with the grays in the duvet and a colorful poster of the London Underground Tube Lines that would pair nicely.

Teen Bedroom Trends: Giant Flower Bedding

08
Nov

Not entirely certain when this happened, but flowers are getting bigger. No – it’s not due to global warming. Just a design trend I’m seeing in floral bedding.

It’s mostly target to teens, I think, as I look at these styles. Tons of very, very, very large flowers having been making their way into bedding styles. I love most of them because they’re so dramatic and eye-catching and girly without being too little girl (like the Sloane set from Target pictured here). Which makes them perfect for a teen. Not to mention, a few big flowers is far less fussy a look than something with tons of small flowers.

One of the places these are popping up the most is over at Target. Their latest designs are quite slanted in this direction. But there are a ton of options blooming all over. I’ve featured a couple of my favorites here, but you can check out a bigger selection of giant flower bedding I collected over at Squidoo.
